I’m learning so much about Family History research since joining Substack! There’s an incredible community here that generously shares ideas, best practices, tools and so much more and has been incredibly encouraging to me, as a novice!
One idea and strategy I’ve learned recently was to focus research on your 16 Great- Grandparents. Taking a look at others’ “16” I’ve gleaned a few things:
so many family historians have access to incredible details like photos and dates, even this far back!
Not many family historians in the Substack community are Irish
But, I won’t be deterred! Here’s my “16”. I hope it helps you fill in some of your own blanks. If you see names here that you know more about or think might be an overlap with your family, comment below! I’d love to hear more.

Thank you for your kind words about the nascent genealogy community here on Substack. It's warm, generous, and growing fast. I tend to think that the care of those who are here now will set the tone for a kinder world than we see in the...uh, rabble of social media.
(Psst: Tell your friends. We'll make room. 😉)
Hi Laura- I am intrigued by your work. I’m not Irish, but my ancestors were. My Substack explores their experience as Irish in Canada. Looking forward to learning more about your 16!
